NATIONAL UNION OF SOCIETIES FOR EQUAL CITIZENSHIP

13

4, Great Smith Street,

Westminster, S.W.1.

18th December, 1931.

Dear Sir,

I am writing on behalf of the National Union of Societies for Equal Citizenship to ask whether you would be able, after Christmas, to receive a small informal

deputation of members of our Executive Committee, including

Mrs. Corbett Ashby, Miss Eleanor Rathbone and myself, to put

before you certain points, under the jurisdiction of the Colonial Office, which this organisation has long wanted

to see embodied in legislative or administrative action as

the case may be.

The most important points we have in mind are those referring to the Slavery in the British Dominions, the practice of ui-tsai, in Hong Kong, etc., and finally the appointment of more women in the Colonial Services and of

women at the Colonial Office.

You will note that these subjects are those which

are either now being considered by the Government, or which

will inevitably come before it in the next few years, and

for the most part they constitute questions of policy rather

than of finance.

We should much appreciate any opportunity you

could give us of meeting you; if you can receive us we

should forward a memorandum on the points we should want to

bring up, in order that we may have the benefit of your

considered reply.

Yours truly,

(Sgd.) Eva M. Hubback.

Chairman, Parliamentary Committee.,

Rt. Hon. Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, G.B.E.,M.C.,M.P.,

Colonial Office,

Whitehall.
